Technology in the 21st Century

September 24th, 2007

As an educator, it is truly amazing to see how involved technology is in education. Just about every workshop & staff development I’ve attended in the past few years has been centered around methods to intregrate technology use.

This change is exciting. I enjoy using technology devices to enhance a lesson. Anytime I use a different technology device with a lesson, the students seem more engaged. They love anything & everything about technology. I especially enjoy the promethean board. You can really use it for any lesson. It allows the teacher and students to interact together, while meeting the 21st century skills.

I find some areas of technology stressful–especially when things do not seem to work as well as they should. What amazes me is how easy these technology applications seem for our students. They know so much more than I do because technology is part of their culture. In all honesty, I have never seen a facebook or myspace page.

It is amazing to see what an impact technology is having on our students. I enjoy putting students in situations where they can use and develop their tech skills. I feel technology will continue to take a larger role in the education of our youth and could become equally as important as classroom teachers.

A system where technology delivers daily instruction and adjusts to meet the needs of individual students could become a reality. We will always need teachers, but their roles would certainly change.

Students are excited about technology because it is ever changing. They do not get bored because there will always be something new and innovative on the market. Technology has streamlined classroom instruction because of its speed and versatility.

As educators, we need to remember that we’re teaching 21st century students. As technology continues to grow in popularity and become more and more advanced, so must our skills in use and implementation. Not only does technology enhance learning, but it makes it more interactive and more enjoyable for the students. In addition, it opens up numerous channels, opportunities and mediums for communication across the globe.

I agree, educators must become technology experts to ensure technology is being implemented correctly in the classroom. Students have more knowledge about technology. Students are also much more motivated when technology is used in a lesson. As educators, it is important to gain the skills needed to use technology effectively and efficiently in the classroom.
